  7. This is beta version 4.04.00.2104 of the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95
  8. Display Drivers with InControl Tools 95 version 4.03.095.

  11. I.  Windows 95 Installation Notes
  12. ---------------------------------
  13.  
  14. A.  If Windows 95 is already installed
  15. --------------------------------------
  16.  
  17. 1. When you first install the video card in the system and power on, Windows 95
  18.    will inform you that it has discovered a new "PCI VGA-Compatible Display
  19.    Adapter" and will prompt you to install drivers for it.  At this point you
  20.    will want to select "Do not install a driver" and click "OK".
  21.  
  22. 2. Next select "Cancel" when the message box appears indicating that your
  23.    display adapter is not configured properly.  Select "Cancel" once again when
  24.    the "Display Properties" dialog comes up.
  25.  
  26. 3. Next right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Then select the
  27.    "Device Manager" tab.
  28.  
  29. 4. Now within the "Device Manager" you will want to double-click "Other
  30.    devices", highlight the "PCI VGA-Compatible Display Adapter" and select
  31.    "Properties".
  32.  
  33. 5. Now select the "Driver" tab and click the "Change Driver..." button.
  34.  
  35. 6. Scroll through the "Hardware Type" list until you find "Display adapters".
  36.    Highlight this selection and click "OK".
  37.  
  38. 7. You should then be able to highlight "(Standard display types)" and select
  39.    "OK" to accept the "Standard Display Adapter(VGA)" option.
  40.  
  41. 8. Now click "OK" once again to install the "Standard Display Adapter(VGA)"
  42.    driver.
  43.  
  44. 9. When Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer, click "Yes".
  45.  
  46. 10. Once Windows 95 restarts you will want to click the "Start" button, then
  47.     choose "Run...".
  48.  
  49. 11. Now insert the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display Drivers into the
  50.     appropriate drive and within the "Run" dialog box type the following:
  51.     "x:\INSTALL" where x is the corresponding letter of the drive containing
  52.     the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display Drivers.
  53.  
  54.            The following command line switches can be used with INSTALL:
  55.  
  56.                 /f                      This forces a Full installation
  57.                                         (Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95
  58.                                         Display Driver and InControl Tools 95).
  59.  
  60.                 /m                      This forces a Minimal installation
  61.                                         (Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95
  62.                                         Display Driver only).
  63.  
  64.                 /d"drive:\path"         This installs InControl Tools 95 into
  65.                                         drive:\path. Note that the quotes, drive
  66.                                         letter and path are required.  In
  67.                                         addition, either the /f or /m switch
  68.                                         must be used in conjunction with this
  69.                                         selection.
  70.  
  71.                 /r                      This forces a system reboot after
  72.                                         installation.  Note that either the /f
  73.                                         or /m switch must be used in conjunction
  74.                                         with this selection.
  75.  
  76.                 /nr                     This prevents a system reboot after
  77.                                         installation.  Note that either the /f
  78.                                         or /m switch must be used in conjunction
  79.                                         with this selection.
  80.  
  81.                 uninstall               This will completely uninstall the
  82.                                         Diamond Stealth 3D Windows 95 Display
  83.                                         Driver and InControl Tools 95.
  84.  
  85. 12. Once the Diamond Setup Wizard dialog box appears you will be able to review
  86.     the Readme file or continue on with the installation by selecting "Next".
  87.  
  88. 13. The Setup Wizard will now check for Diamond components installed in your
  89.     computer.  Click "Next" to proceed.
  90.  
  91. 14. A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 will
  92.     be installed.  The default path is:
  93.  
  94.         "C:\Program Files\Diamond"
  95.  
  96.     Select "Next" or change the path as necessary.
  97.  
  98. 15. The next dialog box selects the installation type.  There are three
  99.     installation types: Minimal, Full and Custom.  They are defined as follows:
  100.  
  101.                 Minimal:        This will install only the Diamond Stealth 3D
  102.                                 Series Display Driver.
  103.  
  104.                 Full:           This will install both the Diamond Stealth 3D
  105.                                 Series Display Driver and InControl Tools 95.
  106.  
  107.                 Custom:         This will allow installation of either the
  108.                                 Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Driver or
  109.                                 InControl Tools 95.  At the minimum, the Diamond
  110.                                 Stealth 3D Series Display Driver must be installed
  111.                                 during a first-time installation.
  112.  
  113. 16. If "Custom" was selected in step 15, a dialog box will appear allowing the
  114.     selection of various items.  Select the items to be installed by clicking on
  115.     them with the left mouse button.  When finished, click "Next" to continue.
  116.  
  117. 17. At the "Select Files to be copied" dialog box, click "Next" to begin the
  118.     file copying process.
  119.  
  120. 18. After the files have been copied you will want to click "Finish" in order to
  121.     complete the installation.  Note: If applicable, please remove the floppy
  122.     diskette containing the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Drivers prior to
  123.     clicking "Finish".
  124.  
  125. 19. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on "Yes" to
  126.     restart the computer.
  127.  
  128. 20. Once Windows 95 restarts, you will have successfully installed the software
  129.     for your Diamond Stealth 3D Series.  The InControl Tools 95 Wizard will then
  130.     guide you the rest of the way.  Thank you for choosing Diamond!

  133. B.  Installing Windows 95 after installing the Stealth 3D
  134. ---------------------------------------------------------
  135.  
  136. 1.  If you install Windows 95 after you have installed the Stealth 3D Series,
  137.     Windows 95 will use a generic S3 driver for the Stealth 3D Series.  In order
  138.     to install the provided Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display
  139.     Drivers, complete the following steps.
  140.  
  141. 2.  First right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Now select the
  142.     "Device Manager" tab.
  143.  
  144. 3.  Under "Display adapters" you will want to highlight "S3" and click "Remove".
  145.     Then click "OK" to confirm the device removal.
  146.  
  147. 4.  Next select "No" when Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer.  Note:
  148.     you will want to keep the "Device Manager" open in order to proceed with the
  149.     installation.
  150.  
  151. 5.  From this point on, you will be able to complete the installation by
  152.     continuing with Step 4 which is provided within the section above labeled:
  153.     "A. If Windows 95 is already installed".
  154.

  156. II.  Diamond Refresh Utility
  157. ----------------------------
  158.  
  159. The Diamond Refresh Utility allows you to select the refresh rate for your
  160. monitor which suits you best in addition to providing a display centering
  161. utility.  You may want to have your monitor's manual or specifications with you
  162. while using this utility.
  163.  
  164. A.  To access the Display Centering Utility:
  165. --------------------------------------------
  166.  
  167. 1. Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  168.    Windows desktop menu will appear.
  169.  
  170. 2. Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties" dialog
  171.    box.
  172.  
  173. 3. Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  174.  
  175. 4. Move your mouse cursor to the screen area on the monitor graphic.  You will
  176.    notice that the mouse cursor changes to a hand.
  177.  
  178. 5. Press and hold your left mouse button and move the screen graphic up, down or
  179.    to either side.  Note that your screen is repositioned dynamically as you
  180.    move the mouse.
  181.  
  182. 6. Release your mouse button when your screen is centered.  Note: You can also
  183.    change the screen position dynamically by simultaneously pressing your <Alt>
  184.    key and either the left, right, up or down directional arrow keys.
  185.  
  186. 7. A confirmation message opens to let you verify the change.  Click "Yes" to
  187.    confirm the change or "No" to revert to the previous screen position.  If you
  188.    don't make a choice, the message box is dismissed after a few seconds and the
  189.    screen reverts to it's previous position.
  190.  
  191. B.  To access the Monitor Refresh Utility: 
  192. ------------------------------------------
  193.  
  194. 1.  Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  195.     Windows desktop menu will appear.
  196.  
  197. 2.  Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties"
  198.     dialog box.
  199.  
  200. 3.  Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  201.  
  202. 4.  In the lower portion of the dialog box, open the refresh dropdown list by
  203.     clicking on the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the list viewer.
  204.     The list contains all available refresh rates for the currently selected
  205.     monitor type, viewport size and color palette.  Note that some
  206.     configurations offer only one choice.
  207.  
  208. 5.  If more than one refresh rate is available, you are provided the ability to
  209.     select a new one.
  210.  
  211. 6.  If you select a new refresh rate, a confirmation message box opens.  If the
  212.     new refresh rate appears stable, you can click "Yes" to confirm the
  213.     selection.  If you click "No" or wait a few seconds, the previous refresh
  214.     rate is restored.
